Detective John V. Peters and his new partner Daisy are the newest members of Westchester County Police, Special Operations Division Canine Unit. Daisy is a certified Accelerant Detection Canine (ADC) who has been trained to sniff out various substances used to start fires.

State Farm® has been a sponsor of the Accelerant Detection Canine Program since 1993. Daisy is one of the more than 300 ADC teams in the United States and Canada sponsored by State Farm and trained by Maine Specialty Dogs.

K9 Daisy and Detective Peters were trained during a 200 hour course in Alfred, Maine. K9 Daisy was trained to work around physical obstacles and to discriminate scents of various accelerants used to set fires. The team has been certified to be capable of discriminating scents of a variety of substances used to start fires by a chemist from the Maine Specialty Dogs program.

K9 Daisy is a food reward canine and passive indicator. K9 Daisy has been trained to recognize the odor of accelerants such as gasoline and associate it with food. That's why they are called a food-reward dog. The only time they eat is when they are working.

K9 Daisy and Detective Peters are assigned to the General Investigation Unit and available to assist all police and fire agencies throughout Westchester County.
