Car Fire on Saw Mill

A 2010 Mini Cooper having mechanical problems caught fire on the northbound Saw Mill River Parkway today. Irvington firefighters had to respond north in the southbound lanes due to traffic being stopped in northbound lanes. Dobbs Ferry was also dispatched the car fire and assisted Irvington. Fueled by magnesium components and a leaky gas tank, firefighters required a Class D extinguisher and foam operations to suppress the fire. Elmsford Engine 137 was called for mutual aid to assist with additional 500 gallons of water.
