At 18:57 on Saturday, May 6th, Marine 4 was dispatched to assist a boat in distress on the Hudson River in Yonkers. A motorist near the Overlook on the Palisades Parkway noticed signal flares being shot-off from a 16' pleasure boat approximately 10 miles North of the George Washington Bridge. New York City 911 received the initial call from the passerby and subsequently notified the City of Yonkers. With both Yonkers' Police and Fire Marine Units out of service, Irvington was subsequently dispatched. Irvington Fire Department Marine 4 and Piermont (Rockland County) 13 Marine located the boat with assistance from helicopters from N.Y.P.D.'s aviation unit. The boat had lost power and was drifting rapidly south under very windy and rough conditions. With assistance from Car 2201, Yonkers F.D. Special Ops Chief Fitzpatrick, and Y.F.D. E-308, the boat was secured and safely removed via a boat ramp at the JFK Marina in Yonkers. Assistant Chief Fitzpatirck thanked all responding Irvington and Piermont Officers and Firefighters for their assistance.
