Irvington Fire Department Celebrates 127th Annual Inspection

On September 29th, the Irvington Fire Department held its 127th Annual Inspection and awards dinner. Regional dignitaries, as well as fire service leaders from throughout Westchester, joined in reviewing the department's personnel, apparatus, and facilities. The pride of the Irvington Fire Department's 60 members was clearly evident in the superb condition of the apparatus and equipment on display. Following the inspection ceremony, invited guests joined the department for dinner at the Westchester Marriott. This was a time for the entire department to reflect upon what has been accomplished, as well as an opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations for their efforts in support of the Irvington Fire Department. The department's two annual awards were also presented.

2007 IFD Awards:

Lieutenants' Award Presented to FF Henry Trama
For the second year in a row, FF Henry Trama was the recipient of the Lieutenants' Award, which is given annually to a firefighter who "demonstrates the dedication and devotion desired in an Irvington firefighter." Congratulations to FF Trama!

Chiefs' Award Presented to Lieutenant and Ex-Chief James Ruffler
Current Lieutenant and Ex-Chief Jimmy Ruffler was recognized for his commitment and hard work on behalf of both the department and the community. This award is the Irvington Fire Department's "Firefighter of the Year" award, and it is given to a firefighter who "demonstrates hard work, outstanding participation, and overall dedication," qualities which sum-up Jimmy. Congratulations to Ex-Chief Ruffler!

Others Recognized by the IFD:

Msgr Raymond Byrne
The IFD recognized our Chaplain Father Byrne with a plaque thanking him for his years of service to the department and the community. It read "presented with gratitude from the Irvington Fire Department in recognition of years of counsel, compassion, and commitment as Chaplain to the Irvington Fire Department."

FF Brian Smith and Blue Ridge Capital
FF Brian Smith and Family, along with his employer Blue Ridge Capital, were recognized for their assistance in acquiring the boat lift and getting M-4 back in Irvington where it belongs. Plaques were presented which thanked Brian and Blue Ridge Capital for their "generosity and support of the Irvington Fire Department."

The Kim Family
A plaque was given to the Kim Family of Irvington in recognition of their continued support of the Irvington Fire Department. For many years they have anonymously planted and maintained the beautiful flowers surrounding the bell in front of the firehouse. This was the IFD's way of saying thank you for all they have done for us over the years.

Former Mayor Dennis Flood and Former Village Manager Don Marra
Plaques were presented to former Mayor Dennis Flood and former Village Manager Don Marra which read "With gratitude for your years of support, hard work, and dedication on behalf of the Irvington Fire Department."
